Scripture/Bible: Now he was casting out a
demon that was dumb; when the demon had gone out, the dumb man spoke, and the
people marveled. 15 But some of them said,
"He casts out demons by Be-el'zebul, the prince of demons"; 16 while others, to test him,
sought from him a sign from heaven. 17 But he, knowing their
thoughts, said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid
waste, and a divided household falls. 18 And
if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you
say that I cast out demons by Be-el'zebul. 19 And
if I cast out demons by Be-el'zebul, by whom do your sons cast them out?
Therefore they shall be your judges. 20 But
if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God
has come upon you. 21 When a strong man, fully
armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace; 22 but when one stronger than
he assails him and overcomes him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted,
and divides his spoil. 23 He who is not with me is
against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. Luke 11:14-23
Reflection: One kind of demon is the demon of dumbness and
those who are dumb will be able to tell you what a misery it is when you are
not able to communicate with the other. It is in communicating with the other,
and if done with the power of God’s Holy Spirit that we find our
fulfillment.
Even for those who are able to communicate, it is difficult for them to communicate with
those who are dumb. It is a terrible
disease which can frustrate our desire to communicate with the other.
Worst
still, when we know the other persons faculties are perfectly fine and yet
behaves like a dumbo! You tell, you explain, you describe, you communicate and
elaborate and yet the other is not able to understand what you have to
communicate.
Still
worse, imagine a situation when such a person is in a terrible soup and you are
trying your best to communicate a perfect solution and yet behaves dumb and
brings about his own ruin.
The
reality of the world is such, even a person who may have been considered wise
by the many and may have received accolades and awards of merits and commended
for intellectual prowess can still be considered dumb to the wisdom that God
has communicated through his Son Jesus.
“For
consider your call, brethren; not many of you were wise according to worldly
standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth; but God chose
what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the
world to shame the strong, God chose what is low and despised in the world,
even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human
being might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in
Christ Jesus, whom God made our wisdom, our righteousness and sanctification
and redemption.” 1 Cor 1:26-30
Prayer: Open
my ears Lord that I may listen to your voice and follow your ways and be wise.
