Be a Christ Servant

Scripture:  As he entered Caper'na-um, a centurion came forward to him, beseeching him 6 and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, in terrible distress." 7 And he said to him, "I will come and heal him." Matt 8:5-7

Reflection:  Shall we praise the concern of the centurion for his servants or was it the selfish, self centeredness of the centurion who couldn’t do without that faithful and now paralyzed servant.  Now he was compelled be the servant of the paralyzed.

Such Intellectualism is an invitation to interfere with the motives of people and read politics in situations unwarranted and often leads to fight or work for pure social causes. These causes or issues are not meant to be dealt with by the servant of God. He is called to imitate Christ and help and absolve without reading motives.  Jesus did not judge him or nor pointed any motives.

In the ultimate, Christ is more socially involved, not by seeking to be an activist who knows the heart of people and by going about correcting them, but by repairing the damage of the human heart paralyzed by sin.

Prayer:  Humbly, I bow before thy wisdom which is higher than the heavens.

Ask the right person.

Scripture: And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 26 He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?" 27 And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." 28 And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live." Luke 10:25-37

Reflection:  Asking questions and answering them can be great mental stimulations. We could be asking questions in order to challenge, test, and help the other to know the truth about life or to show off with our little knowledge. O yes! We could be asking questions even to show off our little knowledge of things. There can also be underlying motives or reason to asking.

The Lawyer’s aim was to test Jesus and in the process he is ministered to by Jesus. May be he did not know that he had a problem of dealing rightly with God and his neighbor; his wrong motives expressed towards the perfect and right person became a blessing in disguise.  Jesus indeed saves the sinner; reveals the inner motives so that we may repent and find life in him.

   

Prayer:  Jesus, in you there is mercy and plenty of redemption. Heal and speak to my soul so that I may repent of my ways.
