Today’s Scripture: And
this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from
Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" 20 He
confessed, he did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ." 21 And they asked him,
"What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are
you the prophet?" And he answered, "No." 22 They said to him then,
"Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say
about yourself?" 23 He said, "I am the voice
of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the
prophet Isaiah said." John
1:19-23
Reflection: What
I am and who I am and where I belong and to whom? We all have a story to tell
when asked. Some of us have a great story or some of us may have a sob story but
it is a story that reveals our background and roots.
Some
of us may take pride in our stories and background and some may not have
anything to boast and be proud about. Then there are some who could boast of some
instances of life situations in their lives.
We
may be proud about many things of life but we can never cut ourselves from our
roots and origin. But in all these things we may forget to acknowledge the many
things of life, especially people who have made a great contribution to our
lives. We may forget to acknowledge the
contribution of our near and dear ones just because they have hurt us sometimes
or may be even often. There are some we
may remember only when we are reminded by others of their contribution in our
lives.
In all
these beautiful things and instances that tell our stories, we should never
forget to testify to God the giver of all things and who makes all things
possible.
Prayer: May
we like John the Baptist be ever willing to testify to your actions in our
lives.
