Scripture: Then the Pharisees went and took counsel
how to entangle him in his talk. 16 And they sent their disciples to him,
along with the Hero'di-ans, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are true,
and teach the way of God truthfully, and care for no man; for you do not regard
the position of men. 17 Tell us, then, what you think. Is it
lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" 18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why put me to the
test, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the money for the tax." And
they brought him a coin. 20 And Jesus said to them, "Whose
likeness and inscription is this?" 21 They said, "Caesar's." Then he said to them,
"Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the
things that are God's." Matt 22:15-21
Reflection:
When it is
case of entangling someone either the one who is being entangled could be
entangled for wrong or for being right. But the one who seeks to entangle them
always think that they are right. Maybe they can be right but not so here, in
Jesus’ case it was not so.
Why do we think we are always right and set traps
for people or make fun of or take decisions to condemn others or form judgments
either listening to ourselves or others without checking with the victim of
such human tragedy the truth or without ascertaining the facts.
Their judgments made them miss the greatest opportunity
of their life, they missed the saving wisdom of Jesus; and may have even lost
eternity. Similarly, we too can miss the saving wisdom if we don't seek his saving help.
Prayer: Lord, thou desirest truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret
heart. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be
whiter than snow. Ps 51:6-7
