Scripture: And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying,
"Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 26 He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you
read?" 27 And he answered, "You shall love the
Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your
strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." 28 And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and
you will live." Luke 10:25-37
Reflection: Asking questions and answering them can be great
mental stimulations. We could be asking questions in order to challenge, test, and
help the other to know the truth about life or to show off with our little
knowledge. O yes! We could be asking questions even to show off our little knowledge
of things. There can also be underlying motives or reason to asking.
The Lawyer’s aim was to test Jesus and in the process
he is ministered to by Jesus. May be he did not know that he had a problem of
dealing rightly with God and his neighbor; his wrong motives expressed towards
the perfect and right person became a blessing in disguise. Jesus indeed saves the sinner; reveals the
inner motives so that we may repent and find life in him.
Prayer: Jesus, in you there is mercy and plenty of
redemption. Heal and speak to my soul so that I may repent of my ways.
