The Perfect Healing

Today’s Scripture: And immediately he left the synagogue, and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him of her. 31 And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her; and she served them. Mark 1:29-31

Reflection: The worst thing about a fever is that it leaves you completely drained and one is unable to fulfill one’s duty or obligation.

In our generation a fever is often classified into categories and this classification depends on the type of infection.  Some could be viral, some bacterial. The treatment could largely depend on the diagnosis.

Unlike, in the gospel reading of today we do not know what sort of sickness assailed the mother in law of Peter and for how long, but for sure she was healed by Jesus, just by a touch.  What is more she did not have to suffer the post sickness weakness or lethargy but set about waiting on the five men and perhaps more.

If in this healing there was no weakness, or lethargy that accompanied it, then it means that even a healthy person carrying any form of weakness or lethargy in their fight against sin or while serving God in worship, prayer or reaching out can find the perfect healing in their bodies through Jesus.

Prayer:  Lord, apply your soothing balm and heal my sin sick soul, so that I may serve you with strength and fervor.
