Scripture: Seeing
the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down his disciples came
to him. 2 And he opened his mouth
and taught them. Matt 5:1-2
Reflection: You may call this discrimination but God’s
discrimination in choosing to speak to the disciples rather than the crowds is
based on his long term vision of love. In the short term he could have given
them these wonderful teachings on the beatitude but what use and value it would
be to a large crowd that does not easily understand.
On
the other hand there must have been some among the crowd who seeing Jesus
behave the way he did, by ignoring them and going up on the mountain, may have
felt hurt or grumbled. Yet what is right
has to be done rather than what is evil in the face of peer pressure or crowd
reaction.
At the
end of the day, it doesn’t matter what people say as long as you keep bothering
about what God has to say about your action.
Prayer: Lord, teach me your ways so that I may learn
to walk as your true and dedicated disciple.
