Waiting on the Lord

Scripture: As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of man. 27 They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise as it was in the days of Lot - they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built, 29 but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom fire and sulphur rained from heaven and destroyed them all -  30 so will it be on the day when the Son of man is revealed." Luke 17:26-30

Reflection:  To eat and drink, getting married and to be given in marriage, to buy and sell, plant and build are normal activities and considered essential for life. Morally they cannot easily be faulted as evil, if they are done within the normal limitations.

Yet Jesus finds these activities, as done in the normal sense, an obstacle to in our preparedness to the coming of the kingdom.  It is not enough to do the daily routine of life with diligence and with a sense of pride and duty.  It is not enough to do our duty with a sense of service.

The first thing that is required of us is that we have to be schooled in the school of prayer learning how to wait and be guided by him to take the right decision, to do the appropriate service. If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit. Gal 5:25 NRSV

Prayer: Lord, May your Holy Spirit direct our paths in the way of truth
