THE EYES OF THE LORD

Scripture: And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: "Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 "Blessed are you that hunger now, for you shall be satisfied.”Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh. 22"Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man! 23Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. Luke 6:20-23

Reflection: Many try not to look at the painful reality of life; poverty and hunger are a reality even in the midst of abundance and riches. You could be in the midst of a crowd and yet feel that you are all alone and isolated. We get fed-up with life and often are led to sadness and tears. We could be made fun of and be excluded by people, even deliberately in order to isolate us and crush our spirit.

Now all those who face these situations of life do not become blessed. It is not the crowd that Jesus was addressing but his beloved disciples to whom belongs the greater rights because the earth and its fullness belong s to the Lord and they are the Lord’s special and beloved ones. Yet these beloved ones either voluntarily or otherwise will be deprived of the many things. These have a special assurance from the Lord: “You are blessed” and the Lord’s eyes are on you. (vs.20: he lifted up HIS EYES ON HIS DISCIPLES and said: "BLESSED…)

Prayer: Lord, may I see your hand in all my trials and may your words of assurance speak to me and console me. For you are my Lord and master always watching over me.
