By Faith

Scripture:  "But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places and calling to their playmates, 17 'We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.' 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon'; 19 the Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds." Matt 11:16-19

Reflection:  What the Gospel seems to be pointing out to is one of the greatest and yet the saddest reality of life; we do not listen. Whom to listen to? And with the growing education and media feeds we prefer to listen to ourselves even after listening to everyone rather than to the one who speaks the truth even in silence.

For many of us truth is what I feel is right in my mind and heart and about which we fail to realize that it is conditioned by our situation and surrounding upbringing.

But there is a simple way of knowing and it first begins with the experience of the other, through faith we make this experience our own.  Not all experiences are safe and to be relied upon. But this experience belongs to none other than Jesus. So we have the invitation to trust him and respond, if not, then at least give him a chance to prove to you that he is real and his word is true and his concern  for you is genuine and he wants to save you if only you allow him.

Prayer: Lord, to whom shall we go, you alone have the words of eternal life (Jn. 6:68)
