Scripture: The disciples of John told
him of all these things. 19 And John, calling to him
two of his disciples, sent them to the Lord, saying, "Are you he who is to
come, or shall we look for another?" 20 And
when the men had come to him, they said, "John the Baptist has sent us to
you, saying, 'Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?'" 21 In that hour he cured many
of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many that were blind he bestowed
sight. 22 And he answered them,
"Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their
sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are
raised up, the poor have good news preached to them. 23 And blessed is he who
takes no offense at me." Luke
7:18-23
Reflection: Has there
been anyone in the history of mankind who has demonstrated with such power his
or her credentials. One could argue the
other way and challenge the existence of Jesus as a myth or a creation of human
imagination.
Why
would one do that? -Maybe because the Gospels presents to us a Jesus who proves
himself to be God by performing superhuman and supernatural actions with very
little light on his childhood and early days.
We
need to remind ourselves that the actions of Jesus and the mystery behind his
existence is an invitation not to go by the human spirit of inquisitiveness. The human spirit seeks after useless and irrelevant
information for gossip and slander.
The divine
spirit has chosen to reveal to us enough information into the mystery of Christ,
that after having heard about it and earnestly seeking we will encounter Jesus;
who is and was and is the one to come.
One is
satisfied at arriving at the truth of life in Jesus and yet if they seek any
further fulfillment then it is; in him and through and with him in the unity of
the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Father,
may we seek only in Jesus all that we need to lead a life pleasing to you.
