We who believe are part of Divine History

PC Study Bible Data
Scripture: And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord")  Luke 2:22-23

Reflection: He is the Jerusalem, the temple in which he reigns. They could have prayed at home or at any of the shrines In Israel.

The ways of God are marvelous and great, he had given the Jewish people the law and the prophets. Scripture teaches us that this was in order to prepare a people, with a culture and lifestyle that would make it fitting to welcome a savior.

Christ could not have been born in any other culture or milieu or in any other people or race, except the one whom God had prepared by the giving of the law and customs. That which was legitimate was never rejected or set aside but was welcomed or even purified by Christ’s presence.
The proclamation of the gospel purifies culture and sets it on new foundation, but the process is slow and may take years. It doesn’t take long for the disintegration of the superior Christian culture because by nature we are more prone and easily attracted to that which is sensual and evil.
Prayer: Lord, may your Holy Spirit guide our thoughts and action as we continue as your instrument at this time in history.
