Scripture: The
beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2 As it is written in Isaiah
the prophet,
"Behold, I
send my messenger before thy face,
who
shall prepare thy way;
3 the voice of one crying in
the wilderness:
Prepare
the way of the Lord,
make his paths
straight - " Mark 1:1-3
Reflection: I have
always marveled at the cry of a baby and how compulsively compelling it is to
rush to their attention. Only a hardened heart will not respond or feel
concerned for such a cry.
John’s
cry may not be the cry of a baby or the cry that shed tears, but it is nevertheless
a cry of concern and urgency to prepare the way of the Lord. There is a difference between ordinary speech
and a cry. An ordinary speech may have concerns but the heart may not be in it.
But a cry is from the heart that is concerned and there is a sense of urgency
in its tone.
In
our generation there are the wrong people who cry, based on falsity and
deception. Whereas, those who are supposed to posses the truth have rejected
the truth and oriented their heart and concern towards the priorities of the
world.
The
most appropriate concern is the Lord’s concern and today, more so in our
generation there is a great need of people who are willing to cry with the
message of God as revealed in his word.
Prayer: May
your words which I choose to read daily transform my heart and enable me to cry
out to the world your Love.
