Scripture: And as they were coming
down the mountain 10 And the disciples asked
him, "Then why do the scribes say that first Eli'jah must come?" 11 He replied, "Eli'jah
does come, and he is to restore all things; 12 but
I tell you that Eli'jah has already come, and they did not know him, but did to
him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of man will suffer at their
hands." Matt
17:9a, 10-12
Reflection: If you
have anytime been up on a mountain you will realize that it takes you to
another dream realm of life. You are cut off for a moment from the reality of
hard, day to day life.
Many
of us, at some time or the other, may have often dreamt of being alone by themselves
on a high mountain, living their lives cut off from the hassles of daily life.
The
disciples experience on that mountain, coupled with the reality of being up
there, had made a profound impact on them and they had to be reminded of the
cross of life which Jesus had to undergo. In the same way there may be occasions
of life when we may seek God through prayer, retreats and other modes but the
reality of the cross and suffering is an unavoidable mystery for a disciple to
live with.
Prayer: Lord,
teach me to recognize and accept the cross of daily life.
